“media are not just passive channels of information. They supply the stuff of thought,
but they also shape the process of thought. And what the Net seems to be doing is chipping away my capacity for concentration and contemplation.”

I have never thought about the problems that the abridged information the internet spoon feeds us as bad. And I don’t necessarily agree that it is the problem. I think the information on the internet does not give us as much of an opportunity to practice long reading. The blame for the lack of contemplation is on the reader for not practicing.
“Once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words. Now I zip along the surface like a guy on a Jet Ski.”
From this quote I gather that the lot of people just skim rather them dive into their reading. I would agree there is a serious problem with gathering meaning from deep readings, I just don’t think the internet is completely to blame. The more readers use the Web, the more they have to fight to stay focused on long pieces of writing. Without practice, you will lose the skills to concentrate on a long meaningful piece of literature.
As much as I would love to continue blogging on my beautiful cat covered blog, google has shut me out and made logging on to do so impossible. I've been working on this problem for my entire TA block and so far nothing is working. My hopes are that either of you (Mrs. James or Mrs. Beaver) will see this comment and help me! This is definitly not what I expected to happen when I tried to log in to my google account.
